The Painted Blade Fighter

Hello! I had a lot of fun with this one - the Painted Blade Fighter. I love applying atypical themes to classes so a charismatic and artistic fighter seemed like a really interesting angle. I’ve also included some recommendations for easy reflavoring. While working on this, I kept dancing around the idea of a Painted Blade having 12 or 14 Charisma for most of the game. This was limiting things a bit so by bringing in the ability to use Charisma for attacks, I can expect a quickly scaling Charisma score. And, ya know, Strength, Dexterity and Constitution are still going to be worth investing in so I think it all works out.

It’s available now in the shop and is free to the Spud Club during the month of June.

Overview

Knights of the Painted Blade are charismatic fighters dedicated to the beautiful blending of art and combat. Elegantly moving around the battlefield, these warriors burn with an elemental passion that manifests through supernatural pigments - magically applied either to their own equipment or their enemies.

Painted Blade

3rd-level Painted Blade feature

You’ve learned how to empower your attacks with your art. As a bonus action, you can magically apply a colorful coating to a weapon that lasts for 10 minutes. When you use this feature, any existing effects of this feature end.

While your Painted Blade feature is active, once on each of your turns, one of your attacks with the coated weapon can deal an extra 1d6 damage to a target on a hit. The damage type is determined by the color of the coating as listed below.

• Acid - Yellow

• Cold - White

• Fire - Red

• Lightning - Blue

• Thunder - Black

Also, when you make an attack with a coated weapon, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, minimum once, and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
