Welcome to the FryMinis Mini Metric library!

The FryMinis Mini Metrics are designed to provide concrete numbers to WizKids pre-painted mini reviews. From our experience, most mini reviews were often either a nebulous feeling or pass/fail type of thing. Our goal is to provide more specific feedback and insight. Continue reading to understand how we determine scores or jump down to our scores of both sets and individual minis!

3 Metrics

Each mini is rated on three distinct metrics with general considerations for each metric.

  • Sculpt: Is it detailed? Is it dynamic? Is it durable?

  • Paint: Is it well applied? Is there a variety of color? Is it intricate?

  • Fun: Does it feel creative? Is it clever or charming? Does it have presence?

5 Points

Each metric receives a score of 1 to 5 points. The more points, the better, but a 3 is a typical score.

  • 5 Points: Virtually perfect. 5 sets the high mark of what I could reasonably hope to see from a mass-produced, pre-painted miniature.

  • 4 Points: Impressive. 4 is reserved for minis that, while not immaculate, stand above standard expectations.

  • 3 Points: Standard. 3 is a baseline expectation of average quality and by far the most common rating.

  • 2 Points: Disappointing. 2 means the mini is below what I expect but isn’t terrible.

  • 1 Point: Irredeemable. 1 means a complete failure of quality.

5 Stars

The points from each metric are combined to get an overall star rating. Just like the points, the more stars the better, but 3 is the most common.

  • 5 Stars: 15 points. A truly superb mini of incredible quality.

  • 4 Stars: 12 - 14 points. A mini of special note and impressive character.

  • 3 Stars: 9 - 11 points. An average mini of typical quality.

  • 2 Stars: 6 - 8 points. A subpar mini with notable flaws.

  • 1 Star: 3 - 5 points. An utterly unpleasant mini with critical problems.

Overall Set Ratings

For sets, the star ratings are averaged to produce an overall star rating for the set. Due to the nature of the Mini Metrics, most sets tend to average out very close to a 3 - reinforcing the typical expectation of quality.
