Overview

The Spud Club Painting Challenge is a monthly themed painting contest hosted by FryMinis with exciting prizes! Members of the Spud Club (Patreon.com/FryMinis) have exclusive access to the Premium category, while all other eligible participants have access to the Free category. Each category has its own prizes and winners. See below for details and rules.

Prizes

  • All submissions will be shared on FryMinis.com, with special recognition for any submission that wins a prize - Premium, Free and FryMinis Fan Favorite. In rare cases, select submissions may not be featured on FryMinis.com, depending on potential content concerns as determined by FryMinis

  • Premium Category: 1st place: $50. 2nd place: $25. 3rd place: $10. Premium category winning submissions will receive virtual gift cards of the relevant values to their choice from select websites including FryMinis.com, DMsGuild.com, Games-Workshop.com, MiniatureMarket.com and ReaperMini.com. Prizes will be sent to the email addresses provided during the submission process within 7 business days of the completion of judging.

  • Free Category: 1st place: $25. 2nd place: $10. 3rd place: $5. Free category winning submissions will receive virtual gift cards of the relevant values to their choice from select websites including FryMinis.com, DMsGuild.com, Games-Workshop.com, MiniatureMarket.com and ReaperMini.com. Prizes will be sent to the email addresses provided during the submission process within 7 business days of the completion of judging.

Entry Subject

Your submission must be focused around the monthly theme. The themes are purposefully broad to allow your creativity to shine but your submission must have a clear connection to that month's theme. Have questions about a specific theme? Ask us over discord.gg/fryminis!

Entry Requirements

  • Photos. You may upload up to 5 showcase photos of the completed mini for judging. You must also include both a photo of you with the mini unpainted (primed is okay) and a photo of you with the completed mini - you may substitute yourself with your name on a handwritten note. The verification photos will not be published.

  • Info. Submissions are to be entered via a completed Google Form - see each theme’s page for the specific link. Entries may be submitted in advance of any given month but all other requirements still apply.

  • Timing. Miniatures must be submitted before 11:59pm CT on the last day of the month for each challenge. You may only submit one entry per challenge - if multiple entries are submitted, the most recent one will be selected for judging. Premium vs Free category qualifications are determined at the time of judging, based on the period of the theme, not at time of submission.

Judging

FryMinis will judge submissions based on a balanced view painting skill, expression of theme and general creativity. While technical painting skill is important, it's our view that there is more to miniature painting than mechanical precision. Basing and terrain are not required but can potentially benefit a submission.

FryMinis Fan Favorite votes are determined as each voter chooses, after encouragement to consider our standard judging guidelines. Prior to 2024, voting took place at Discord.gg/FryMinis. Beginning in 2024, voting will take place in public polls at Patreon.com/FryMinis (no paid membership required).
